State of South Dakota lodging per diem
5:01:02:14.  In-state per diem rates. Per diem rates for official in-state travel are as follows:
           (1)  The actual cost of lodging up to a maximum of:
               (a)  $55 plus tax a day from check-in on September 1 through check-out on June 1, and
               (b)  $70 plus tax a day from check-in on June 1 through check-out on September 1.

FY 2017 Federal lodging per diem is $91 in most of South Dakota - higher in Black Hills area

The federal General Services Agency (GSA) established  federal per diem lodging and meal rates for fiscal year 2017 for cities across the nation, effective October 1, 2016. The continental United States per diem rate – which includes most of South Dakota - is $91 per night for federal government travelers. Some areas of the Black Hills are allowed higher rates – up to $142 per night in June, July and August. For specific details, click here.

U.S. Department of Justice guidance documents for pool & spa entry

 The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has guidance documents related to pool and spa entry requirements under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT (ADA)

The ADA compliance deadline for existing pools and spas was January 31, 2013.

In their current form, the new regulations require that pool lifts in existing pools/spas be "fixed" unless not "readily achievable," that lifts be next to the pool or spa at all times when facilities are open, and that lifts cannot be shared between two water bodies - even if they are in the same location.

South Dakota Hotel Regulations

South Dakota Department of Health - Expedited follow-up inspection criteria
The ability to request and receive an expedited follow-up inspection after a regular routine health inspection took effect July 1, 2013. In order to qualify for an expedited inspection, the following criteria must be met. Requests for expedited inspections not meeting these criteria will not be granted.

  1. The most recent routine inspection score is 80 to 89.
  2. The request must be made in writing and postmarked within 10 business days of the most recent routine inspection.
  3. The expedited inspection fee of $100 must accompany the written request.

Expedited inspections will be conducted within 60 days of the date of request.  Expedited inspection scores will not replace previous inspection scores but will be posted along with previous results.  An expedited inspection may only be requested one time in any 2 year period.  Questions regarding the expedited inspection process can be directed to the Office of Health Protection at 605-773-4945.

Safeguarding of Property in Hotels

Smoking ban (Referred Law 12) was approved by SD Voters in November, 2010.  It requires smoking rooms to be posted as such.
